DEIRDRE, owner

Deirdre Novella received her cosmetology license in 2000, and spent seven years in the New York City fashion industry. This consisted of hair styling for runway, advertising campaigns, fashion catalog, magazine editorial, and television.

In 2005 she joined Guido Palau’s fashion week team and worked with him for six seasons; hair styling for New York’s top runway shows including Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren. This experience was vital in learning all aspects of styling; wigs, extensions, up-do’s, speed, and product knowledge. Wanting to get back into salon work, she moved to Los Angeles in 2008 and started an apprenticeship at Vidal Sassoon, learning precision cutting techniques. After Sassoon, she worked as a stylist at a trendy Barbershop in West Hollywood, where she mastered her barbering skills and men’s styles- fades, clipper cuts, and pompadours.

Kala has been in the industry since 2010. Coming to Badlands 3 years ago, she is now co-manager; in charge of keeping everyone happy. While Kala loves creative color and balayage, she is most known for her gorgeous pixies, her short boi cuts, and her on-point barbering skills. Her laid back yet meticulous approach is what makes her one of our most requested stylists—her clients appreciate her ability to target exactly what they want and nail it. When she's not here to do your hair, she's probably chilling with her cats watching horror movies & cooking elaborate vegan meals.

Addison is a Vidal Sassoon trained stylist from Oklahoma City who's been living in Brooklyn for two years. Quickly rising to the top, she is now Co-Manager and Head Cutting Educator for Badlands. She specializes in modern barber cuts and bobs. European influences and straight lines show up in her work so often you'd think she was Mondrian incarnate. Catch her riding her bike around town or watching RuPaul's Drag Race with her cat, Tortilla!

Swimming in from the Rockaways daily, Patty is the master barber who lives by the sea. Fades, beard trims, lavender-mint hot towel shaves, and all around queer aesthetics are her specialty. Born and raised in NYC, she spent many years working in the art industry before joining our team and mastering the Badlands barber education program. Patty has an eye for beauty and perfection... and because of her master-level discipline, she has quickly risen to the top at Badlands and is now one of Brooklyn’s most sought-after barbers.

Corrine, STYLIST

Corrine hails from the mystical land of New Jersey where her early training at Aveda and an apprenticeship with Vidal Sassoon landed her a spot in Aveda’s masters program in London. For over a decade she travelled the country as a certified Aveda educator and stylist before finally settling in New York City in 2007. She now brings over 20 years of experience in detailed haircutting and natural hair color to Badlands while she completes her degree in Psychology and Studio Art at Brooklyn College. Corrine excels at literally every aspect of hairstyling, but if you’re in the market for perfect, gorgeous highlights, she is your woman!
